Courageous by Randy Alcorn
Randy Alcorn, one of my favorite authors wrote an incredible novelization of the "Courageous" screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. Courageous will be in theaters on September 30.
Back of Book says:
"As low enforcement officers, Adam Mitchel, Nathan Hayes, and their partners willingly stand up to the worst the world can offer. Yet at the end of the day they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.
They know that God desires to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, but their children are beginning to drift farther and farther away from them. Will they be able to find a way to serve and protect those who are most dear to them?
When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw cloer to God...and to their children?"
Randy Alcorn delivers a powerful message to Men/Husbands/Dads. If the challenges presented in this book were lived out the world would change one family at a time.
Stephen and Alex Kendrick have also writtena book, "The Resolution for Men" to help men in their role of being a godly leader in their family and in their world.

I'm completely cheating here, since I haven't actually read the book... I recently read a blog post of one of my favorite author's, Randy Alcorn and I have to share it here. He is recommending a book on parenting that I just have to get my hands on.

Game Plan for Life by Joe Gibbs

The Game Plan for Life: Your Personal Playbook for Success is the fulfillment of a long-time vision of Joe Gibbs, three-time Super Bowl winning head coach of the Washington Redskins and owner of a three-time NASCAR championship team.
Randy writes, "Joe drafted a team of men to specifically address 11 key areas that men age 20 and older struggle with, focusing primarily on what the Bible says about these issues. He called me to ask if I would write about Heaven. Joe said the Heaven book had meant a lot to him, and I told him I was glad to contribute a chapter."
Click here to watch a video of Joe Gibbs talking about Heaven and his visit with Randy Alcorn in May.
The Game Plan for Life is available through Christianbook.com. Be sure to check out www.gameplanforlife.com for resources on all the topics the book covers.

February Book Giveaway - Dominion by Randy Alcorn

I read Dominion (Deadline, Dominion and Deception share quirky, yet lovable characters) after some initial hesitation because the front cover gave me the impression that the book would be too intense. It was intense, but it made me consider some issues that I had previously chosen to ignore. Dominion delves into racial issues in a way that people of all races can learn from and appreciate. Randy develops his characters and story line so well that when you finish the book you may find yourself wishing you could continue reading. All three books are terrific and I highly recommend them. Randy Alcorn Book Giveaway - The Treasure Principle

Randy bases his motivational message on the words of the world's foremost financial consultant, Jesus Christ, who advised listeners to "store up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (Matthew 6:20). "God owns everything," Randy writes. "I'm His money manager. What I call my money is really His. The question is, what does He want me to do with His money?" In contemporary, easy-to-understand language, Randy offers readers a six-step plan to finding the immediate pleasure and eternal rewards of the Treasure Principle. Once readers discover the liberating joy of giving, life will never look the same. And they won't want it to!
Learn more about The Treasure Principle at the Eternal Perspectives Ministries website, where you can read excerpts, find more related resources, and order books. To enter for your chance to win the giveaway, leave a comment on Randy's blog post by Friday, November 28. The winners will be announced in a post on Monday, December 1, at Randy's blog.

Tell Me About Heaven by Randy Alcorn; paintings by Ron DiCianni

Front Jacket says:
It’s a place full of new beginnings that never end, seeing God, reunions, uninterrupted relationships, eating and drinking, activities, worship, music and joy. But it’s also a place of mystery, especially for children.
God’s Word gives us glimpses of what’s ahead, with clues that can be trusted – and anticipated. And this is the exciting news reflected in author Randy Alcorn’s heartwarming storey and artist Ron DiCianni’s striking paintings.
As Jake’s fears and questions about eternity are turned to wonder through his conversations with his grandpa, any child’s excitement about Heaven should grow. Its powerful message will help curious young hearts understand that if they love Jesus, not only is there nothing to fear, but the best is yet to come.
Back of book says:
When young Jake asks his grandfather, “What’s it like where Grammy is?” he – along with the children you love – will be ushered into a warm story answering the many questions kids have about Heaven. And it’s all tucked away in this keepsake volume that they - and you – can return to for reassurance.
The Bible says, “We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth…” Use this book to help your special little ones look forward to that new world.
Check Randy Alcorn's website, your local bookstores or library for this great children's book and watch your children's longing for heaven increase and fear of death decrease.
